CHR Miami Radar: House, Kuduro, Salsa + R&B | Oct. 2–4
Crown Heights Radio Music / DJ / Dance Radar
Miami is strongest on global club rhythm, turntablist lineage, salsa and live musicianship.
1. 🔥 CIRCUIT: DJ Marfox + SAY3 + RARA b2b Iankofj + Guácharo b2b Mango
Saturday, Oct. 3 | 10 PM–4 AM | The Boombox
This is my #1 CHR Miami pick.
DJ Marfox is one of the essential figures in Lisbon’s kuduro/batida continuum, and the night deliberately connects that Angolan-rooted rhythmic language with Miami through Liberian/Haitian DJ SAY3 and local selectors. It is exactly the sort of club night CHR should champion: diasporic music being treated as a living electronic culture rather than an “international” side category.
Why CHR: Batida · kuduro · African diaspora · underground electronic · local selectors · dance-first rhythm
2. 🎸 Thundercat + Kitty Ca$h
Friday, Oct. 2 | 8 PM | Miami Beach Bandshell
The standing Bandshell check paid off immediately. Thundercat brings his mix of funk, jazz, progressive R&B, hip-hop and psychedelic soul, with Kitty Ca$h supporting. The event is presented by Rhythm Foundation and III Points.
This expands Radar beyond club nights without wandering outside CHR’s musical universe. Thundercat’s collaborations with artists including Flying Lotus, Kendrick-adjacent worlds, Kaytranada, H.E.R. and others make this a strong bridge between musicianship and contemporary beat culture.
Why CHR: R&B · funk · hip-hop lineage · musicianship · DJ adjacency · Miami cultural programming
Bandshell watch
The Bandshell also has Zoso on Saturday and the Florida Fellowship Super Choir on Sunday.
3. 🎚️ Disco Dom + The Brothers Macklovitch = Dombresky + A-Trak & Dave 1
Friday, Oct. 2 | 11 PM | Club Space Terrace
This is a very tasty bit of CHR connective tissue. Dombresky’s Disco Dom project meets A-Trak and Dave 1 as The Brothers Macklovitch on the Space Terrace.
A-Trak is especially relevant to CHR because his history connects turntablism and hip-hop DJ culture to contemporary dance music, while Dave 1 brings the Chromeo/funk side of that family tree.
Why CHR: House · disco · turntablism · hip-hop DJ lineage · funk · serious selector culture
4. 💃 Salsa Fest Weekend
Thursday–Sunday, Oct. 1–4 | InterContinental Miami
This is the weekend’s strongest Miami movement research opportunity.
Salsa Fest Weekend combines workshops, pool parties, social dancing, showcases and live concerts, with programming continuing throughout Friday and Saturday before the Sunday close. The festival is produced by Salsa Lovers.
Friday’s public-facing Salsa Nights program includes a complimentary salsa lesson, live music from Melina Almodóvar y su Orquesta and DJ Ivan before the floor opens into social dancing.
Why CHR: Latin music · partner dance · live percussion · DJ culture · social dance community
5. 🌒 Âme + Hardt Antoine + Maceo Plex
Saturday, Oct. 3 | 11 PM | Club Space Terrace
Club Space’s Saturday program puts Âme, Hardt Antoine and Maceo Plex together on the Terrace.
It is very strong for the serious long-form DJing / house-and-techno side of CHR.
Why CHR: Extended DJ sets · house · techno · underground club infrastructure
6. 💿 B-Sides Live Session Vol. 5: AWKTOBER
Sunday, Oct. 4 | 5 PM | Crazy Vinyl Record
This is a quieter CHR gem. Crazy Vinyl Record is hosting an intimate alternative-jazz live session inside the record shop, built specifically around artist discovery, vinyl, art and community.
Why CHR: Vinyl culture · independent artists · record-store community · live musicianship
This week the dancer, the selector, the lineage and the neighborhood. 📡💿🕺🏽
