CHR Brooklyn Radar: Breaking, Vinyl Salsa & Underground House | Oct. 9–11

This weekend belongs to the dancers.

Brooklyn brings something we have specifically been searching for: a genuine breaking battle, alongside all-vinyl salsa, soulful house, hip-hop classics and multicultural nightlife.

1. 🏆 Footwork to the Fullest: Breaking Battle

Saturday, October 10 | Doors 2:30 PM | Battles 4 PM
Venue: Rikud Movement Studio, 607A Vanderbilt Avenue

This is the biggest discovery in this week’s Brooklyn Radar.

Presented by Rikud and Break Konnect, Footwork to the Fullest is an actual breaking competition, not simply a DJ party featuring footwork music.

Dancers compete across three age divisions, with DJ Jungle providing the music, Born judging and Dr. Ew hosting.

Why CHR: This directly connects music, hip-hop history, physical expression, competition and streetwear.

2. 💿 Tropicorama V Anniversary: La Clave All-Vinyl Salsa

Saturday, October 10 | 7 PM–3 AM
Venue: Salsamentaria La Milagrosa, Bushwick

This event is exceptionally close to the Crown Heights Radio identity.

Tropicorama celebrates five years of Latin and Caribbean music culture, beginning with La Clave’s all-vinyl salsa session from 7–10 PM.

Vaiina and Adrian is Hungry handle the early selections. Later, Ultraviolet, Madkick, Rogue and Chris move the music toward contemporary Latin and Caribbean club sounds.

The event also features dominoes, tattoos, creative vendors, traditional Mexican ribbon braiding and a pop-up appearance from Kuzumbo Records.

This is more than a party. It is a gathering of DJs, record collectors, designers, artists and community organizers.

3. 🏠 Cameron & Mo’s Bar: Final Block Party

Saturday, October 10 | 2–8 PM
Venue: Mo's Bar & Lounge, Fort Greene

Soul Summit Music, Merlin Bobb, Cyclo Carl and Cameron Da DJ bring house and deep house to a neighborhood block party.

The lineup makes this particularly interesting for CHR’s soulful-house audience.

These events matter because dance music is often at its best when it is embedded in a community rather than separated from it by club conventions.

4. 🎶 Classics Only III

Saturday, October 10 | 5–11 PM | 21+
Venue: Market Bar

This one has a lovely community pulse.

DJ Deem’s Classics Only series is practically built for CHR listeners.

The musical references range from Marvin Gaye, Earth, Wind & Fire and Donna Summer to Frankie Knuckles, A Tribe Called Quest and Shabba Ranks.

Expect funk, disco, Motown, house, soul, hip-hop and reggae.

The appeal is not nostalgia alone. It is the opportunity to hear how different generations of Black music connect through rhythm, production and DJ selection.

5. 🌍 DAWSHA: Global Underground Club Sounds

Sunday, October 11 | 10 PM–4 AM
Venue: Bossa Nova Civic Club

DAWSHA brings together a lineup including 8ULENTINA, Donia L Jelly, Simzii and Hamadi.

The event draws from Arabic and Middle Eastern club music, Jersey club, Latin club rhythms, grime, experimental electronic music and other underground styles.

For CHR, this is a useful reminder that contemporary club culture is being shaped through conversations between scenes, cities and diasporas.

6. 🎛️ Dead Letter No. 9: Third Anniversary

Saturday, October 10 | 6:30 PM–4 AM
Venue: Dead Letter No. 9, Williamsburg

The venue celebrates its third anniversary with music across multiple rooms.

Of particular interest is Tony Flow with Vereda INTL, combining live percussion and vinyl influences in a performance touching Latin music, funk and soul.

Other participating DJs extend the night into house and electronic sounds.

7. 🪩 The Nursery: Frank & Tony + Roman Flügel

Sunday, October 11 | 3–9 PM
Venue: Public Records

A daytime-to-evening session featuring Frank & Tony and Roman Flügel.

This is one of Brooklyn’s strongest options for people interested in patient, sophisticated house programming rather than a packed lineup of short sets.

It is particularly valuable for studying how DJs build atmosphere over time and how different kinds of house music create different physical responses.

NYC option outside Brooklyn:

SHERELLE and Kush Jones at Nowadays in Ridgewood, Queens, on Sunday, October 11

📡 This Week's CHR Takeaway

Last weekend, the strongest discovery was house-dance history.

This weekend, we have actual breaking competition, all-vinyl salsa, Carnival movement and a remarkable range of Caribbean and underground sounds.

That progression is important.

The Radar is becoming more than a guide to where DJs are playing.

It is a way of finding the people who shape how music is heard, danced to, dressed for and carried into the community.

Hear what’s on the Radar. A weekly Crown Heights Radio soundtrack of new discoveries, familiar favorites and sounds moving through Miami, Brooklyn and beyond.
