01. JUST FOR KICKS
Curator’s Choice at The Wolfsonian–FIU

🔴 CHR RADAR PICK
Sometimes an entire culture can be read from the ground up.
This Thursday, The Wolfsonian brings together Miami footwear collectors Bianca DeRousse of ImSimplyB and Luis Valenzuela of the Miami Shoe Museum for a conversation exploring shoes, collecting and the stories objects accumulate over time.
The program connects to the museum’s current exhibition, Foot Notes: Shoes, Symbolism, and Society.
Sneakers and high-fashion heels may occupy different shelves, but both can communicate status, movement, subculture, aspiration and identity before the person wearing them says a word.
That is what makes this one especially interesting.

02. MISS USA + MISS TEEN USA COSTUME PRESENTATION
Monday, August 24 | 7 PM
Adrienne Arsht Center, Miami
A runway can be about more than fashion.
The opening presentation of Miss USA and Miss Teen USA week brings contestants from across the country onto the stage in costumes designed to represent their home states.
Forget the pageant scores for a minute.
The interesting question is how clothing communicates place.
Color, proportion, symbolism and exaggeration all become visual shorthand when a look has only seconds to tell an audience where it came from.
That makes the runway an unexpected exercise in visual storytelling.

03. CARRIE SIEH: LIMBIC GEOMETRIES

Not every fashion reference comes from fashion.
Miami artist Carrie Sieh opens Limbic Geometries, a new exhibition exploring perception, encoded information, shifting color, bodies and the way meaning changes depending on how something is viewed.
That relationship between what is immediately visible and what remains concealed feels particularly relevant right now.
Good design rarely reveals everything at once.
Sometimes the quieter detail is the one that stays with you.

04. HIP HOP RECOGNITION MONTH MURAL CELEBRATION
Sunday, August 30 | 6–8 PM
175 NW 20th Street, Wynwood
Hip-hop has always had a visual language.
This Sunday, that history moves onto the walls of Wynwood with a public celebration around Miami-Dade’s Hip Hop Recognition Month, bringing together artists, murals and community programming.
For CHR, the most interesting part is the intersection.
Music becomes visual art.
Visual art becomes public space.
Public space becomes style.
And the people gathered around it become part of the picture too.
