Brooklyn answers with house lineage, outdoor salsa, Afro/Latin electronic music, queer disco and community-scale street dancing.
The DJ matters, but so does what the room does with the music.
1. ⭐ CHR LEAD: SACRO by MËSTIZA
Friday, September 18 | 7 PM–2 AM | Creekside, Under the K Bridge
This is the strongest CHR event in either city this weekend.
This may be the strongest Music + Movement event of the entire weekend.
MËSTIZA brings SACRO to New York for the first time, combining house and Afro-house with live flamenco dancers, musicians and percussion, alongside Apache and Lohrasp Kansara. The concept reinterprets Spanish folkloric music and dance through contemporary electronic culture.
Why CHR: It refuses the false choice between tradition and club culture. Music, movement, heritage, styling and contemporary nightlife all operate simultaneously.
2. 🏠 Love Games: Tony Humphries
Saturday, September 19 | 10 PM–5 AM | Good Room, Greenpoint
House-music pioneer Tony Humphries leads the Good Room alongside Lauren Murada and Finn Jones, with TYLERFROMWHERE and Steph Vaye taking over the Bad Room. Good Room’s own calendar confirms the lineup.
Why CHR: Tony Humphries provides a direct line into New York/New Jersey house history without turning the night into a museum exhibit. The music still has to work on a contemporary dance floor.
If you were physically choosing only one Brooklyn night primarily for DJ culture, this would be extremely difficult to beat.
3. 💃 Outdoor Salsa Series on Vanderbilt Avenue
Saturday, September 19 | 5–9 PM | Vanderbilt Ave & Pacific St., Prospect Heights
Salsa Salsa Dance Studio takes salsa into the street with a free class at 5 PM, followed by an outdoor dance party from 5:30–9 PM in partnership with Prospect Heights Open Streets.
This is a particularly strong Radar addition because Salsa Salsa has deep Brooklyn roots: the studio traces its history to Bushwick and describes its mission as bringing on2 salsa back to its local roots while building community through instruction and socials.
Why CHR: Street + music + movement + neighborhood + accessibility. No velvet rope necessary.
4. 🪩 MOTHERDISCO featuring DJ Lina
Saturday, September 19 | 4–10:30 PM | The Yard at 3 Dollar Bill
MOTHERDISCO returns outdoors with DJ Lina and additional music from Emil Cohen for a late-summer afternoon-to-evening dance session. 3 Dollar Bill’s official calendar confirms the September 19 event.
Why CHR: Disco is treated here as social space rather than retro theme. The queer-community context adds another layer to how style, identity and movement interact on the floor.
5. Bradley Zero + Tornado Wallace / Stones Taro + Yibing
Saturday, September 19 | 11 PM–4 AM | Public Records, Gowanus
This lineup is catnip for the selector side of CHR. Bradley Zero and Tornado Wallace share the Sound Room, while Stones Taro and Yibing bring a palette that reaches into breakbeat, UK garage, jungle and UK funky.
Why CHR: This is less about one obvious genre and more about rhythm literacy. Garage, broken beats, house and left-field dance music become neighboring dialects.
6. 🎪 YES Block Party
Sunday, September 20 | Noon onward | House of Yes, Bushwick
House of Yes marks its 10th annual block party by taking over the street with performance, art, play and outdoor dancing. It is free, all-ages and rain-or-shine. The music lineup remains TBA on the official listing, which is why I’m ranking it below the DJ-specific picks rather than above them.
Why CHR: Community-scale culture. Music and dance are embedded inside a larger creative ecosystem rather than isolated behind a nightclub door.
“Music You Have to Move To.” Last week was about the floor remembering. This week feels like its natural sequel: records, rhythms and traditions stay alive because somebody keeps putting their body into them.
